Natural Seaweed Skincare & Seaweed Bathing in Dorset

Rooted in the Dorset coast, Sae Seaweed grew from years spent living, working and foraging along the coastline. Founded by Jade and Dan Scott in 2020, Sae brings together their knowledge of wild food and the coastline with a shared fascination for seaweed and its place in everyday rituals.

From their base at Middle Beach in Studland, wild seaweed is hand harvested under licence from the surrounding Dorset coastline. It is at the heart of Sae, from our seaweed bathing experiences overlooking Studland Bay to our natural seaweed skincare collection.

Sae grew from Jade and Dan’s earlier work as founders of Fore / Adventure, their Dorset wild food and adventure business. Years spent kayaking, foraging and teaching others about the coastline gave them an intimate knowledge of the landscape and the different seaweeds growing within it.

What began with seaweed as a wild food gradually developed into something more. Living and working beside the sea, Jade and Dan began exploring its traditional use in bathing and skincare, and how those rituals could create a different way to experience and reconnect with the coast.

Sae remains rooted in that original idea: by the sea, harvested by hand and connected to place.

Why Seaweed?

Seaweed first captured our attention as a wild food. With an extraordinary variety of edible species growing along the Dorset coast, it became a regular ingredient in our kitchen and our Forage and Feast events.

Our fascination soon extended beyond food. As Jade began rethinking how she cared for herself while living with chronic illness, the couple started exploring the tradition of seaweed bathing and its use in skincare. What began as something personal gradually became part of the idea for Sae.

Today, seaweed remains at the heart of Sae, from the wild seaweed we hand harvest for our bathing experiences to the seaweed and extracts used throughout our natural skincare collection.

Our seaweed bathing experience uses wild seaweed hand harvested from the Dorset coast. Immersed in warm water, the seaweed creates silky, mineral-rich bath water for a deeply relaxing coastal ritual, leaving the skin feeling soft and conditioned.

Natural Seaweed Skincare, Rooted in Dorset

Our wild seaweed is hand harvested from the Dorset coast and is naturally rich in marine minerals and polysaccharides. Used in both its pure form and as a seaweed extract across our skincare collection, it brings mineral-rich marine care to formulas created to hydrate, nourish and condition the skin.

Our natural seaweed skincare combines our own wild seaweed with carefully selected naturally derived ingredients, botanical oils and marine actives. From daily cleansers, serums and face creams to masks, oils and body care, each product is created as part of a simple skincare ritual.

Sustainable Seaweed Harvesting

Throughout their 16 years developing their skills and offerings at Fore, Jade and Dan have gained a multitude of qualifications to accredit their courses and develop their wild food knowledge. Dan has gained his NCFE Level 4 Ethnobotany and plant identification award. They have both worked closely with Natural England to enable them to harvest seaweed seasonally and sustainably to agreed quotas. They have been awarded a license from the Crown Estate to commercially harvest seaweed along the Dorset coast.

Sae is based in studland and employs local people. At Sae we wear our sustainability on our sleeve and minimise our impact on the natural world. We use boats and kayaks to deliver us to where we hand harvest wild seaweed. Adhering to the code of conduct agreed with Natural England.

Sae seaweed is carefully hand picked by our Foragers from Fore / Adventure in clean unpolluted waters along the Dorset coast. Then dried at a low temperature to preserve it’s naturally rich nutritional content. Jade and Dan have designed their packaging to be eco friendly. They are working on designing refills for their products and commit to using recycable and sustainable packaging.
